Projects of the Quarter |
Medium-to-Large Business (MLB) Project of the Quarter |
Congratulations to Cenergetix on winning the MLB Project of the Quarter. This project, recently completed at Church of the Nazarene in Gaithersburg, Maryland, through Pepco’s Energy Efficient Communities Program, involved lighting upgrades.
Cenergetix replaced the church’s dated fluorescent and metal halide lighting fixtures with new, cost-effective LEDs. They also added new lighting controls for the fixtures to maximize energy savings. The successful upgrade included not just the church, but also its offices, classrooms, and the gymnasium.
The
project has brought significant savings and noticeable improvements to the building’s ambiance, so it came as no surprise that the church’s parishioners and staff seemed thrilled with the results. According to Val Carlton, the facility caretaker, “Church of the Nazarene is so grateful to Cenergetix for all their efforts to bring our church from the dark ages to a welcoming environment for our staff, students, and parishioners while providing dramatic energy savings at the same time. We did not have the funds necessary to do this upgrade until Cenergetix introduced us to Pepco’s Energy Efficient Communities Program that allowed us to move forward with the project.”
Thanks to these upgrades, Church of the Nazarene now will save approximately 160,074 kWh annually and received $31,756 in incentives from the program.

Small Business (SB) Project of the Quarter |
Congratulations to Smart Lumen for winning the SB Project of the Quarter for work recently completed at the Beddow Montessori School in Fort Washington, Maryland. This lighting and controls project, completed through Pepco’s Energy Savings for Business Program, focused on upgrading the school’s fixtures and installing daylight harvesting controls.
Trudy Beddow, the school’s educational director, knew the school’s lighting needed updating, but also had further concerns about energy waste throughout the day. Smart Lumen proposed lighting controls as an additional option—and it made all the difference. Beddow described the experience with Smart Lumen as “very easy and accommodating. Their team was great at communicating as the paperwork was processed and was flexible to meet all our needs.”
Thanks to these upgrades, the Beddow Montessori School will save approximately 21,328 kWh annually and received $14,288 in incentives from the program.
